Our Team

Dr. Richard Mabie
Do not be deceived by the boyish grin, quick-witted sense of humor, or the lack of gray hair. Dr. Mabie knows his veterinary medicine. He has been caring for pets and their owners for over 35 years. He energizes his staff with exemplary leadership and sensitive encouragement.
Dr. Mabie actually came from the wrong side of the tracks, Virginia. His circuitous route to West Virginia includes 4 years of honorable service in the United States Coast Guard, and graduation, in 1981, from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A & M University. In 1987, with a vision of his own hospital, and with a few remodeling changes to the old Winfield Motel, Country Roads was established.
Dr. Mabie, along with his wife, Debbie, reside locally, enjoying the small town community. His palate runs to all dishes hot and spicy, egg salad, and lemon pound cake. In rare moments of spare time, he rides his motorcycle and reads books of history and classic literature; his favorite book being the book of eternity.

Kathy James
Senior veterinary assistant - Kathy has been in Putnam County since before the Shawnee Indians, and she knows everybody around. She even knows what you had for dinner last night. She has two monster sons - each about eight feet tall - and a lovely daughter. She also has three grandchildren, Ashleigh, Ole Bryson, and Cameron. Kathy is loyal, smart, friendly, capable, but you should be well insured if you make her mad. She knows more veterinary medicine than the Dr. and can fix any problems. So fear not, you’ll be in good hands.

Cathy Corns
Veterinary assistant / office manager - otherwise known as Momma Corns - because she is a wonderful Mom - to all the girls that work here. She keeps the clinic, the vet, and the crew running like a well-oiled machine. Married to Lenny for a thousand years with three fine sons, Cathy can cook like you wouldn’t believe and if you’re lucky - very lucky - oh those enchiladas! Very task-oriented, diligent, super thorough, and a wonderful Christian woman. You got problems, Cathy has answers, so come on down.

Cynthia Shelton
Veterinary assistant - If ever there was a one-size fits all Veterinary person its Cynthia. She’s a beautiful girl, way too smart, great animal handler, motivates the vet with her own clap on - clap off, and is a delight to be around. She can text, Google, talk, and tweet with one arm behind her back. She’s a Marshall University graduate with a psych degree and works for the state of West Virginia. Cynthia lives in Cross Lanes with her young daughter, Allie, and little son, Skylar. You better wear two pair of socks around Cynthia because she can charm your socks off. She is awesome!

Tonja Holley
Accountant - Tonja is our business expert who sees to it that this company runs like it should run. She’s a tax, payroll, and bookkeeping genius - we have records dating back to the Jurassic period. Tonja and Mark live in an unknown location and her favorite activity is not working. Tonja is already an eternal being as she never gets older - and she’s beautiful. You’ll love her!

Jennifer White
You all remember the fairy tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs! Well after she was finished with the little fellas, she turned into Jennifer. Miss Jennifer is the sweetest, purest Southern Belle ever—always positive, outgoing, encouraging—it’s awful!
Jennifer is married to Todd, an insurance executive, and a great guy. They have a daughter, Lauren, with a mind of her own.
And get this, Jennifer collects exotic pets! Yeah! She liked snakes, lizards, turtles, iguanas, hamsters, etc. To each his own.
Jennifer and Todd enjoy working out, traveling and worshipping at their church. She is a neat lady. You just cannot read her writing. She has her own unique alphabet.
We totally love Jennifer. No doubt, you will too.

Natalie Craig
Several month ago, this beautiful young lady showed up with a puppy that she and her fiancé had bought. Nat was so compelling; we made her come join out team. So glad about that! But wait, there’s more.
Natalie is very feisty, kind of like a cat with its tail on fire. She can talk to you and answer the phone at the same time. She goes through spells of wanting more pets and then gets mad at them. And when your call here, she makes you an appointment regardless of how booked we are. The girl has a mean streak!
Natalie and her now husband, Eric, are expecting their first baby boy soon. She is a very good employee and a great friend. I know she will be a super mom.
Welcome to Natalie!

Hannah Witt-Townsend
Experienced, smart, great attitude, friendly, loyal, I can keep going. But you might begin to wonder. Hannah is all these and more—but—there’s always a “but”—you ought not cross her willingly. You’ll never see it coming.
Hannah joined our team about four months ago. She is also a pet groomer at another business. Chardan, the special young man in her life, operates heavy equipment. They live in Hurricane with a menagerie of animals.
Hannah is the kind of person who can make you feel right at home. And if you don’t know about your pet’s problem, she’ll make you think that’s perfectly fine. She is a delightful person. We all love her.
